Good to know
Everything for your stay
During your stay
So you feel at home.
From the handcart in the storeroom to sorting your rubbish: the small things that make life on the farm easier - sorted by topic.
Living and technology
Storerooms
Every apartment has its own storeroom (numbered like the apartments) for terrace furniture, a clothes horse, the handcart and bicycles.
Handcart
In your storeroom you will find a handcart, yours to use freely for trips to the beach, walks and the like.
Washing machine & dryer
The washing machine and dryer are in the utility room, outside to the left of the main entrance. They take one-euro coins (washing €2.00, drying €2.00).
Clothes horse
Drying laundry inside the apartments is not allowed, as it can lead to mould.
Ventilation
The farm has a permanent ventilation system. You can set its intensity with the upper switch right next to the apartment door: switch up means 20%, switch down means 100%. Between 10 pm and 6 am the system is off.
Windows
The weather on the coast is changeable - for better and for worse. Please always remember to close all windows when you leave the apartment.
Toilet
POLDER72 is not connected to the sewer system; waste water is treated in an ecological treatment plant. Hygiene products, food waste and the like must never be flushed down the toilet.
Waste
We separate waste into:
- General waste
- Cardboard and paper
- Packaging (yellow bin)
- Organic waste
Glass and bottles go into the bottle banks. The nearest one is in Bensersiel in the Friesenstraße car park.
Living together
Rules for the Gulf
So that the children can sleep and play undisturbed, we ask you:
- to keep the quiet hours in the entrance area (the Gulf) from 9 pm to 9 am
- not to leave bicycles, trailers or clothes horses there
- to put the ride-on cars back under the stairs after playing
We rely on your understanding and on the help of parents.
Smoking
Smoking is not frowned upon here. Do enjoy your cigarette on the terrace or outdoors. Smoking inside the apartments, in the barn wing, in the utility room and on the playground is, for obvious reasons, not allowed.
Ride-on cars & vehicles
Here even the little ones get behind the wheel. Whether a Formula One course in the barn or an expedition across the farmyard - there are (almost) no limits to the fun. The apartments, please, stay strictly car-free.
The barn also has a table tennis table and a table football game for young and old.
Consideration
Consideration is not only a virtue - it also makes a lot of rules unnecessary.
Saving energy
Saving energy is the order of the day, politically and economically. And for us who live by the dyke, a warming climate and rising sea levels are a serious threat to the place we live in. Please help and use energy thoughtfully during your time at Polder72 as well.
Flowers
We would be glad if you could water the flowers in the apartment during your stay. Thank you for your help.
Outside on the farm
Terrace
It can get stormy by the dyke. Please put the terrace furniture and the parasol into the shed whenever necessary, and always before you leave.
Barbecue
If your apartment has a barbecue, please clean it after each use, and at the latest before you leave.
Beach & swimming
You can swim close by in Bensersiel or Dornumersiel. Swimming at our stretch of the dyke is neither permitted nor advisable.
If something comes up
Who to contact
For problems, faults or damage, please contact Erlebnis Nordsee directly. For apartments 4-11 you can reach our team on 04971 - 94 97 600.
For questions about apartments 1-3 and the Backhaus, please contact Hilke Heyen on 0175 - 156 14 92.
In urgent cases outside regular hours: Erlebnis Nordsee emergency contact 0170 - 35 45 855.
Damage
Please report any damage straight away, so that follow-up costs and inconvenience for the next guests stay as small as possible. If you or your children have broken something by accident: don't worry, nobody will lose their head. Please don't arrange a replacement yourself - we keep many things in stock and will provide them at cost.
Cleanliness
If the apartment is not clean enough when you arrive - in the rush something does occasionally go wrong - please tell us immediately.
Departure
Departure
Please leave the apartment by 10 am - our cleaning team needs the time to get everything ready for the next guests. Before you go, we would be grateful if you could:
- run the dishwasher in good time and empty it
- strip the beds
- put rubbish and glass into the bins at the car park
- turn the heating in all rooms down to about 15 °C
- close all the windows
Final cleaning
The final cleaning does not include washing up the crockery and kitchen utensils; the dishwasher should be empty when you leave. Saving energy is good for your wallet and for the environment. For people living by the dyke in particular, global warming is an existential matter. Please help by switching off lights and electrical devices and turning down the heating before you leave.
About the farm
Gulfhof
The Gulfhof is a type of farmhouse that appeared in northern Germany in the 16th and 17th centuries. It is built around a timber frame of posts (the so-called Stoapelwark) that carries the load of the roof.
Polder
A polder is flat marshland won from the sea by dyking and draining it.
The apartment names
For the names we took inspiration from the members of the East Frisian chieftain family „Kankena“ (15th century, Wittmund/Dornum).
Art & pictures
In apartments 1, 2, 3, 5 and 10 we have hung selected works by Käthe Janssen, an artist from Esens. The pictures are for sale. If you are interested, please speak to our team or contact the artist directly at www.kaethe-janssen.de.
